FAQ
Why is the Summer Challenge only for violin, viola, and woodwinds?
In the coming seasons, we’d like to add brass, and low strings instructors so we can offer the Summer Practice Challenge to more students. For now, we’re keeping instrumentation to our immediate strengths.
Do I have to audition?
No. Just let us know how many years you’ve been playing. You’ll begin work at your own starting line and make progress at your own pace.
What is the registration deadline?
The program begins June 20. We’ll take late registrations up to June 24.
How long does the Summer Challenge last?
We begin on June 20 and end on July 15.
What equipment will I need?
You’ll need your instrument and its accessories (reeds, rosin, etc.), a device connected to the internet (phone, tablet, computer), and a pair of headphones.
Is there a dress code?
You can practice your instrument and watch the instructional videos in your jammies and fuzzy slippers if you like. For live events and photos/videos posted to the discussion group, school-appropriate clothing is required. Please no halter tops, tube tops, mini-skirts, or swimwear. Clothing should not have inappropriate/offensive language or graphics.
How many levels do I have to pass?
Work at your own pace. If you pass two levels, you’ve made progress, and that’s great. If you pass all five levels, that’s great, too. You’ll earn the prize for each level you pass, so just do your best.
Do I have to complete the levels in order?
Yes! No shortcuts - start at Level 1 and go from there. How far will you make it? Let’s find out!
